GNB Update

Here it is...the first post of 2010...

Georgia has a new nominee for Secretary of State. But it's not the person many people expected. GPB News reports Governor Sonny Perdue named former state senator Brian Kemp to replace GOP gubernatorial candidate Karen Handel Monday. Handel stepped down last month to focus on her campaign for governor. State Representative Jim Cole of Forsyth offered to take the job, but changed his mind over the holiday weekend.

Making sure it's not a city "too busy to love." That was the message new Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed delivered as he was sworn in Monday afternoon. Reed is the state capital's 59th mayor. He defeated city councilwoman Mary Norwood in a runoff last month.

The International City has a new mayor as well. Chuck Shaheen and three city councilmen took their oaths of office in Warner Robins on Monday. Shaheen replaces Donald Walker, who died last year.
