GNB Update

It's less than a week until Christmas...Here's what's happening...

Many colleges and universities have public relations and marketing professionals. Not many of them have positions that focus solely on academic marketing. Columbus State University brought such a person on board Friday. The four-year institution named Jeffery Dodd as its director of academic marketing and communication. He starts his new job on January 11.

A major milestone for the state's flagship university. Nine faculty members from the University of Georgia earned fellowships from the American Association for the Advancement of Science earlier this week. The nine new fellows from UGA is a school record. They'll be honored at the organization's annual meeting in Sand Diego in February.

A well-known actor is coming to metro Atlanta to start off 2010. CSI:NY star Hill Harper will visit Kennesaw State University next month to be the keynote speaker for that institution's M.L. King and Black History Month celebrations. He also has a series of best selling books from the New York Times.

GNB is online at georgianewsbeat.blogspot.com, and on Twitter at twitter.com/georgianewsbeat. Have a good weekend.
