Lawmakers likely to avoid transit funding

Metro Atlanta commuters hoping to see funding for public transportation might be in for a disappointment this year.  

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Georgia lawmakers are unlikely to address any funding issues for transit services in 2013.  That puts the future of MARTA and other systems in Metro Atlanta in doubt.

Eight institutions become four

What was a system 35 public colleges and universities in Georgia is now at 31 schools.  The Board of Regents of the University System voted to merge eight institutions into four on Tuesday.  But that historic move hasn't come without some controversy attached to it.  Click on the following links below for more coverage.

WALB names new News Director

The end of an era is near for one of Georgia's heritage television stations. WALB.com in Albany reports that longtime WALB news anchor Dawn Hobby will anchor her final newscast on Friday. She will became the NBC/ABC affiliate new News Director, replacing Rick Williams, who had been the news director for more than two decades.  He moves on to Biloxi, Mississippi to become the General Manager of ABC affiliate WLOX.

Say hello to Georgia's newest university

Georgia now has a new university.  The University of North Georgia was officially chartered by the University System of Georgia on Tuesday.  The move comes as a result of a merger between the former Gainesville State College and North Georgia College and State University.

Georgia has worst high school grad rate in South

Georgia has the worst graduation rate among high school students in the Southeast.  That's according to a study released by the U.S. Department of Education Tuesday.  It reports that the Peach State has 67 percent graduation rate.  That's among the lowest numbers in the nation. Tennessee had the highest graduation rate among neighboring states at 86 percent.
